Organizations embark on successful lean journeys by understanding that lean complexity lies in simplicity, which involves having a plan, making the plan, monitoring the plan, and then making adjustments for improvement. However, we must continue to ask: Why is it so difficult for organizations to understand and execute lean principles effectively? The foundation for sustainable lean success and operational excellence is understanding that it is a way of thinking. Lean tools were developed to solve specific organizational problems. However, companies attempt to apply lean tools without clearly understanding which problems they are trying to solve. This brings the question: Why do we want to solve problems in the first place? The answer is to make the organization stronger.
Lean aims to serve customers better without making mistakes, increase revenue, and reduce costs. The term "lean journey" now almost takes on philosophical connotations, but let us not forget that it is about improving the business. Lean is a concept related to results. Organizations struggle with their lean journeys because they focus solely on lean tools and fail to spend enough time thinking about and understanding lean principles. Thus, the book titled "Everything I Know About Lean, I Learned in First Grade" exemplifies lean applications through activities that take place in elementary school. In this context, the adoption of lean thinking in organizations can be achieved through very simple activities. THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL STRUGGLE

The National Struggle, which we proudly commemorate on its 100th anniversary, emerged as the existential fight of the Turkish nation, which rejected subjugation and remained steadfast in its pursuit of freedom and independence. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, after the occupation of Istanbul at the end of World War I, set out with a firm belief that "they will leave as they came." A STUDY ON THE MENTAL STATE OF YOUTH: SUICIDAL TENDENCIES AND POSSIBILITIES

In the phenomenon of suicide, the states of anxiety and angoisse (deep psychological distress) are considered fundamental causes. Under conditions of intense anxiety and inner psychological turmoil, individuals may develop strong tendencies toward suicide. The shock effect created by intense emotional reactions to external and social factors can also trigger suicidal behavior. From a psychological perspective, suicide is analyzed as the manifestation of an individual’s will and desire for death. In every society, behaviors that exceed the culturally defined boundaries of normality can be observed and are referred to as “social deviance.” While forms of deviance vary across societies, they are generally shaped within the framework of each society’s cultural context.

SYMPOSIUM ON LIABILITY LAW

In joint-stock companies (corporations), the board of directors (BoD) is the legal management and representative body. In limited companies, the manager(s) or directors serve as the legal management and representative body. Therefore, in lawsuits filed by third parties or shareholders against the company, the board of directors or the manager(s) represent the company by law. This raises the question of whether, in the event the company loses a lawsuit, the managers will be held responsible for legal fees, expert fees, legal opinions, and other court expenses related to the lawsuit. As of now, there has been no dispute in Turkish law brought before the Court of Appeals regarding the responsibility of board members for the court costs paid by the company in cases the company loses.

SOCIAL SERVICES CONGRESS 2018: REFUGEES AND SOCIAL SERVICES

Since 1995, the traditional "Social Services Symposia" meetings, organized in collaboration with the Social Services Specialists Association and university social work departments, have continued as congresses since 2017. This year, the "Social Services Congress 2018: Refugees and Social Services" theme was held with international participation at Istanbul Aydın University Florya Halit Aydın Campus on May 11-12, 2018. Due to the rapid increase in global conflicts and violence, there has been a significant rise in the number of people forced to flee their countries because of war, discrimination, etc. As a transition country, our nation is particularly affected by this situation. Refugees face numerous problems and challenges during their escape and in the countries they reach. The need for an interdisciplinary approach and cooperation in addressing the problems faced by refugees is the main focus of the 2018 congress. In this context, the scientific and professional dimensions of the work done and what can be done in the field of refugee social services, particularly focusing on social work practices, were discussed, and the studies presented at the Congress are included in this publication.

WORKSHOP ON SYRIANS UNDER TEMPORARY PROTECTION IN TURKEY

 The topic of "Syrians under Temporary Protection" has become one of the important issues in our society due to recent developments. Given the current international context, this issue concerns all countries; however, it is of particular importance to our country due to our historical ties, Syria being our neighboring country, Turkey's efforts to support Syrians in need, and the Turkish Armed Forces' military operations in Syria aimed at clearing terrorist groups from our borders.

In this context, Istanbul Aydın University’s Social Research Application and Research Center organized a workshop on "Syrians under Temporary Protection in Turkey," aimed at discussing the healthy integration dimensions of this issue, focusing on aspects such as "education," "economy-employment," "public security," and "social morality and peace."

A number of experts participated in the workshop, and analyses were conducted under the main and subtopics, ultimately reaching a comprehensive resolution report. This publication is significant for offering an assessment of the situation and proposing solutions for this sensitive issue.
