RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS

The catalogue containing documents from the archives of the Vatican Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Monsignor Angelo Rotta’s unofficial representation of the Vatican on the shores of the Bosphorus between 1925 and 1930 constitutes a first in Türkiye. Documents related to Turkish history in the Vatican Archives—particularly those from the 19th and 20th centuries—are written in Italian and French. The only way to overcome this linguistic challenge was to prepare a documented catalogue. Accordingly, we present Turkish summaries and references along with the facsimile copies of the documents. These documents also provide important clues as to how the political climate of the early years of the Republic was perceived and interpreted by a Catholic authority.

CAPACITY BUILDING IN POST-CONFLICT LIBYA: FROM PAST TO FUTURE
Istanbul Aydın University’s Africa Application and Research Center organized a series of webinars on recent developments in Libya between June 23 and July 27, 2020. Experts in their respective fields were invited to these events. In total, nine webinars were held with broad participation from relevant stakeholders. The main theme of the meetings was Capacity Building in Post-Conflict Libya. The text presented here reports the findings obtained from these webinars. Our aim was to determine the path that efforts to build capacity in conflict environments should follow, contribute to establishing a philosophical framework for this path, and present a conceptual structure that could guide practical applications and stimulate discussion. Such an initiative inevitably required an interdisciplinary approach. At Istanbul Aydın University, contributions were made by faculties ranging from Medicine to Fine Arts, from Economics and Administrative Sciences to Architecture. In addition, academics from other Application and Research Centers participated in the webinars as speakers and commentators. By addressing topics ranging from Libya’s economy and security to art and infrastructure, we aimed to introduce a new discourse that challenges the imposition of a single universal model—often framed around concepts such as good governance and transparency—on contexts that lack historical and social consideration.

NEW LIFE
The concept of reportage is often misunderstood in Türkiye. In fact, the tradition of reportage dates back to Herodotus. Türkiye became acquainted with the masterpieces of reportage through the works of Yaşar Kemal and Fikret Otyam. So what is reportage? Reportage is the most subjective form of news writing, combining the essential elements of journalism with a strong literary foundation. Istanbul Aydın News Agency (IANA), the practical training platform of the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Aydın University, distinguishes itself not only as a news agency but also through its unique approach to news reporting. In this work produced entirely by an intern student team, the full boundaries of literary expression have been freely utilized.

SYMPTOMS TRIGGERED BY VIRTUAL REALITY
Communication is an extension of human beings. At the core of human interaction with the environment lies communication. Humans have produced techniques according to their needs, and the development of these techniques has led to the emergence of new ones. Technique represents the knowledge acquired by humans in their struggle with nature, while technology is the socialized and applied form of this knowledge. When we look at technological developments over the last fifty years, the fastest and most widespread area of advancement has been communication technologies. This field, referred to as digitalization, has created a virtual world alongside the existing physical reality. This study examines the current and potential future problems created by the virtual world and aims to contribute to possible solutions through recommendations.

FROM THE PEN OF THE CHIEF NEGOTIATOR
This work compiles the articles and opinion pieces published in the press between 2010 and 2018 by Mr. Egemen Bağış, former Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief Negotiator. The book provides readers with an opportunity to better understand the historical development of Türkiye–European Union relations through first-hand accounts. We believe that this study, which records an important historical perspective on Türkiye’s EU accession process, will contribute both to shaping future EU policies and to guiding researchers interested in the history of Türkiye–EU relations.

WESTERN PLATFORM MEETINGS 1
In today’s globalizing world, existing transportation and communication technologies have accelerated the interaction and integration of societies more than ever before. As a nation that has historically looked toward the West since Central Asia, we must adapt to this globalizing world without losing our roots and values. At the Western Platform meetings—where numerous distinguished academics, statesmen, administrators, businesspeople, and intellectuals regularly share their views on Türkiye’s economic, cultural, social, historical, and political relations with the West—Istanbul Aydın University has developed alternative solutions and perspectives on many national issues. These ideas have been compiled into this book.

AL-JAHIZ AND HIS LITERARY VIEWS
Al-Jahiz, described as the “genius of the Arabs” and the “Voltaire of the East,” is one of the literary figures who made significant contributions to the development of Arabic literature. Through his solid, profound, and distinctive style, Al-Jahiz successfully reflected the spirit of literature and rhetoric (the art of eloquent expression) of his time. His approach of combining humor with seriousness in religious matters and prioritizing reason and logic represented views that were unconventional for his era, making him an influential figure for later generations of writers. Dr. Mustafa Aydın, whose field of expertise is Arabic Language and Literature, revisits the life and literary views of Al-Jahiz—an intellectual figure who continues to illuminate thought even after more than eleven centuries—and contributes to scholarly knowledge within his field.

EURASIAN ISSUES
The concepts of Eurasia and Eurasianism encompass not only geographical meanings but also historical, civilizational, ethno-social, and strategic dimensions. Eurasian issues have been examined by experts in various academic and intellectual platforms. The scientific dimension of this field is highly significant. The Middle East and Caucasus Application and Research Center at Istanbul Aydın University seeks to address this topic from multiple perspectives while prioritizing Türkiye’s domestic and foreign policy, cultural and economic cooperation, and the educational strategies of the University. Regional conflicts that have devastated oppressed and Muslim populations in the Middle East—often resulting in Muslims being pitted against one another—should not be repeated in the Eurasian geography. For this reason, the dissemination and understanding of the content of the book Eurasian Issues is of great importance. Had concerns about “Middle Eastern issues” been addressed fifty years ago, the Islamic world might not have remained merely a passive actor in today’s conflict-ridden geography.

A NEW HOMELAND (YENİ BİR YURT)
The forced migration initiated by Russia in 1864 caused significant erosion in the cultural, intellectual, and social fabric of the Caucasus. This migration, launched through coercive policies as part of Russia’s strategic expansion plans 154 years ago, brought immense suffering not only to the peoples of the Caucasus but also to the Turks. This important work, published by Istanbul Aydın University, aims to shed light on a significant chapter of history. The book by Fabio L. Grassi will refresh collective memory regarding a subject that has long been overlooked.

A STUDY ON THE PSYCHOLOGICAL STATE OF YOUTH: SUICIDAL TENDENCIES AND PROBABILITIES
In the phenomenon of suicide, the states of anxiety and angoisse (deep psychological distress) are considered fundamental causes. Under conditions of intense anxiety and inner psychological turmoil, individuals may develop strong tendencies toward suicide. The shock effect created by intense emotional reactions to external and social factors can also trigger suicidal behavior. From a psychological perspective, suicide is analyzed as the manifestation of an individual’s will and desire for death. In every society, behaviors that exceed the culturally defined boundaries of normality can be observed and are referred to as “social deviance.” While forms of deviance vary across societies, they are generally shaped within the framework of each society’s cultural context.

THE SOCIAL EFFECTS OF TRANSFORMING VILLAGES INTO NEIGHBORHOOD STATUS
One of the methods adopted in Türkiye to achieve the concept of “urbanization” in rural areas has been the enactment of legal regulations. Through dozens of amendments to the Village Law and related legislation, approximately 34,000 villages have been transformed into 17,000 neighborhoods, thereby becoming direct parts of urban centers. The Field Research Project on the Social Effects of Transforming Villages into Neighborhoods aims to examine this social transformation within the framework of legislative changes.

AN ANTI-IMPERIALIST OTTOMAN INTELLECTUAL: HALİL HALİD BEY (1869–1931)
Beginning in the 17th century, Westernization movements—initially emerging in the military sphere and later expanding into administrative, economic, social, and political domains, as well as influencing the field of education—gradually gained space alongside traditional forms of governance, thought, and social life by the mid-19th century. In order to accurately present the intellectual foundations of these movements, it is necessary to prepare critical editions of their primary sources and to publish scientifically grounded biographies of the figures who shaped the intellectual climate of the period.

CULTS IN TURKISH MYTHOLOGY
The study of both nature cults and cult systems is among the more complex subjects within academic research. A cult constitutes a mythological system that includes intricate rituals. From the period in which it emerged, the cult system has formed part of traditional thought and the culture that shaped it, and this function continues today. In this sense, researching cult systems essentially means investigating a complex and multi-layered dimension of cultural history.

TRABZONLU HAFIZ İSMAİL EFENDİ: HIS LIFE AND SCHOLARLY PERSONALITY AS ONE OF THE LATE OTTOMAN INTELLECTUALS
The lives and ideas of individuals who have contributed to or shaped science, society, and art have always attracted human interest. For this reason, many individuals have recorded their life experiences in the hope that they might serve as guidance and inspiration for future generations. Various memoirs and biographical works have been published throughout our history and will continue to be published. In order to preserve and introduce life styles and social values that are gradually fading or being forgotten, the previously neglected aspects of the past are presented before history and public opinion—perhaps as one of our final duties—to illuminate the path for future generations.

THE GREAT DISASTER: ARMENIAN LIES AND THE ESSENCE OF TRUTH – RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTS
The policies of great powers produce not great civilizations but great wars. People driven by hatred and resentment ultimately serve not God but the devil. Since the creation of humanity, no conflict, division, or armed force has ever brought lasting enlightenment or peace. Actions taken merely to save the day have never created permanent peace. The logic of “blood for blood,” pouring fuel rather than water onto burning conflicts, has unfortunately been a misguided path both in the past and today. Despite remarkable technological and scientific progress, humanity has also become capable of betraying its own people, country, and moral values. In such a dilemma, truth loses and falsehood prevails.

TRACES FROM DIFFERENT CULTURES
By examining different cultures, I selected several works from folk literature. I approached each selected work from my own perspective. To illustrate them visually, I chose myths from Hittite and Chinese cultures and incantation prayers from Ukraine. To enrich the meaning of my illustrations, I examined folk motifs and their symbolic meanings, selecting key symbols for each illustration. I also studied the fonts used in the respective historical periods and employed similar typefaces to reflect the spirit and culture of the time. The work was produced using the Linoleum Engraving Technique. The engravings were printed onto photographs of various natural surfaces such as wood, stone, straw, leaves, and soil, thereby attempting to give the work a historical atmosphere.

A GEO-ENERGETIC PERSPECTIVE: GEO-ENERGY AREAS IN ENERGY POLICIES IN THE CONTEXT OF THE EU
Energy appears as one of the most important inputs in the formation and reshaping of the existing world order. Attempts to establish direct or indirect control over this resource require dynamic international policies. These policies affect not only the energy security of states but also their broader national security frameworks. The aim of this book is to equip readers with sufficient understanding of the factors influencing the formation of these policies and to enable them to draw conclusions regarding how Türkiye may be affected by these processes and their outcomes.

TURKISH STATE OF WESTERN THRACE
At the beginning of the 20th century, the international system—much like today—was shaped by inter-state power struggles, colonial ambitions, and rising nationalist movements. Rivalries, particularly between France and the Russian–Austrian blocs, had become increasingly difficult to resolve. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, by a Serbian nationalist on June 28, 1914, marked the final turning point in this tension and opened what would become the bloodiest chapter of human history up to that time.

TAWĀBİʿ WA AL-ZAWĀBİʿ BY IBN SHUHAID
It is often observed that a literary figure, in order to express ideals that could not be realized in the real world and the sufferings endured in life, retreats from the world he inhabits into an imaginary realm where he can display his dreams. This literary phenomenon—often described as a metaphysical or imaginary journey—is not new. Since the earliest periods of human history, people have attempted to explain universal phenomena occurring around them by developing various spiritual and intellectual interpretations.

THE ANDALUSIAN POET AND WRITER IBN SHUHAID
Al-Andalus, with its multicultural and multi-ethnic structure and its role as a center of Islamic thought and philosophy influencing the West, has been the subject of many studies. However, although extensive research has been conducted in Western countries on Andalusia, studies on the history and culture of Andalusia in Türkiye remain extremely limited. Andalusian literature is among the fields that have received relatively little scholarly attention. With the aim of contributing—albeit modestly—to addressing this deficiency, the doctoral dissertation entitled “Ibn Shuhaid and His Literary Personality,” which I prepared in 1992, has been revised and prepared for publication.

THE NATIONAL STRUGGLE AND GAZI MUSTAFA KEMAL THROUGH THE PEN OF CONTEMPORARY WRITERS – VOLUME 1
Lived history and written history possess very different characteristics. Lived history includes everything—hidden or visible, known or unknown—and these elements shape the course of historical events.
Therefore, the National Struggle and Mustafa Kemal Pasha cannot be fully understood without reading the writings produced during that period. These texts were written in the very heat of the National Struggle and reflect the deep pain, hope, excitement, anxiety, fear, and joy experienced collectively by the nation.
Those who wrote these texts personally witnessed those days, closely followed Mustafa Kemal Pasha and his companions, and derived various interpretations about both the present moment and the future from their words and actions. The two-volume work in your hands brings together such writings extracted from newspapers and journals of the period. Its aim is to convey the shared spirit of the era to contemporary readers.

A SUMMARY OF ISTANBUL
Istanbul has hosted different civilizations throughout its history, each leaving its traces within this unique city. While the world has “shrunk” for various reasons, every community that has arrived in the city has brought its own value systems and ways of life. The phenomenon we call life has always been worthy of witnessing from a journalistic perspective. For example, the notes of a German girl about Mahmutpaşa… In A Brief Summary of Istanbul, you will encounter many similarly surprising stories. Sometimes people themselves will speak—such as Katia, the hat maker in Beyoğlu. What does the “little Syria” established by Syrians in Fatih look like? Would you like to see the world created by Afghans along the Bosphorus? Where exactly is the “Womenless Women’s Bazaar”?

SPEECHES ON EDUCATION AND CULTURE
“Rather than what time places before us, what truly matters is what we place before time.” With these words, Dr. Mustafa Aydın encourages us to set goals before ourselves and to challenge time itself with those goals. For individuals or societies, a state of aimlessness does not mean existing in the future of time; rather, it means remaining outside the spirit of the age. Goals can be achieved through education oriented toward production and by renewing and developing the culture of the lands we inhabit and the society to which we belong. The book Speeches on Education and Culture by Dr. Mustafa Aydın—the founding leader of Istanbul Aydın University—serves almost like a North Star guiding our society in these challenging times when we seek direction.

THE SEA AND SEAFARERS
Human beings express their anxieties, sorrows, pain, fear, joy, happiness, love, and passion through various forms of expression—sometimes through painting, sometimes literature, and sometimes music. Since ancient times, people have always preferred one of these forms according to their abilities and tastes. Every nation has its own music that resonates with the strings of its heart. Just as nations have different musical traditions, each nation develops unique styles and forms of music over time. Turkish music, although flowing from the same emotional source, is generally classified into two main categories according to its characteristics: classical music and folk music.

ATATURK CARTOONS
Turkish cartoon art has reached a wealth of magazines and subjects. Karagöz was one of the most important cartoon magazines of the Second Constitutional Era, which saw the publication of dozens of cartoon magazines. Continuing until the first fifteen years of the Republic, Karagöz Magazine was a very long-running publication. While in the Ottoman era it mainly focused on the reign of Abdul Hamid, after the Second Constitutional Era it satirized daily life and every issue related to Istanbul, offered its own unique perspective on politics, and depicted the Balkan Wars in a very special way. During the War of Independence, its publications frequently featured pages in white, meaning it was often subjected to censorship.

According to Kant, the principles of identity, non-contradiction, and the impossibility of a third state are necessary conditions for correct reasoning. In addition to these necessary conditions, those claiming to conduct scientific research must follow a process to ensure sufficient fulfillment. One of the most functional elements in this process is applied statistics. Prepared in memory of our esteemed Professor Dr. Fırat BAYIR, who tragically passed away prematurely, this work, primarily intended for the benefit of postgraduate students in our country and ultimately for the benefit of our country and humanity, is considered by our University and Professor Fırat's academic colleagues as an effort to "keep Fırat's memory alive"...

SYSTEMATIC APPLIED AND PRACTICE-BASED ARABIC VERB SENTENCE AND ITS CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS
The secret of achieving what is often thought to be unattainable success in learning Arabic lies in the systematic presentation of fundamental rules together with simple details. Success belongs to those who constantly develop their abilities, never remain passive, discover their hidden potential, and continuously make use of their full capacity. Learning Arabic is the acquisition of a subconscious system that delicately processes knowledge woven through the intricate networks of the mind with part-whole relationships. When this system works within a holistic relationship—“a nail saves a horseshoe, a horseshoe saves a horse, a horse saves a commander, a commander saves an army, and an army saves a country”—learning becomes both enjoyable and successful.

Our university achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first university in Türkiye to undergo an institutional governance rating. In line with this achievement, two different conferences were organized with the participation of prominent creators and practitioners of the concept of corporate governance, making substantial contributions to the academic literature in this field. Corporate governance can be described as sustainable value and sustainable governance. In recent years, it has become one of the most widely discussed topics both in academia and in the business world. Consistency, responsibility, accountability, fairness, transparency, effectiveness, and participation constitute the fundamental set of values of corporate governance.

Al-Jahiz, one of the most versatile and influential thinkers of his time, not only made significant contributions to Arabic literature but also reached the contemporary scientific world with ideas whose value and importance remain valid today. ADD – IST ART DESIGN DIALOGUES: THEORY IN ART AND DESIGN – SYMPOSIUM EXHIBITION CATALOGUE
The concept of “literacy” constituted the fundamental basis of the teacher-training practices of Education Institutes and Village Institutes. A teacher was expected not only to read but also to write. Within this understanding, writer-teacher figures such as Fakir Baykurt, Mahmut Makal, Talip Apaydın, Mehmet Başaran, and Ahmet Telli were educated. Cultures gain existence through products and works. In the plastic arts—another expression for art education—the material foundation is the product and the artwork itself. Concepts such as “art literacy,” “learning through artwork,” and “education through art” become concrete through artistic production and creative works.

SYMPOSIUM ON LIABILITY LAW
In joint-stock companies, which are capital companies, the board of directors constitutes the legal management and representation body, while in limited companies this responsibility belongs to the manager or managers. Accordingly, in lawsuits filed either against or in favor of the company by third parties or shareholders, the company must be represented by the board of directors or the managers in accordance with the law. In such circumstances, the question arises as to whether managers can be held responsible for court expenses such as attorney fees, expert witness fees, or legal opinions when the company loses such cases. To date, no dispute concerning the liability of board members for court expenses paid by the company after losing a lawsuit appears to have reached the Turkish Court of Cassation.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND ITS SOCIAL IMPACTS WORKSHOP
In the universe, movement rather than stagnation is the fundamental principle. If the smallest unit of matter remains at the same point in two consecutive moments—the smallest unit of time—it is considered stationary. However, if it is located at a different point in the second moment, movement has occurred. When a chain of movement is interrupted at a certain point and replaced by a new chain of movement, this transformation is called a revolution. As TARMER, we undertake the responsibility of observing how the society in which we live is affected by global processes of change and transformation. All social, technological, demographic, political, religious, ethnic, and artistic elements influencing our social culture fall within our field of interest.

The primary mission of the Istanbul Aydın University Center for Social Research and Applications (TARMER) is to conduct activities aimed at identifying and presenting the culture and social structure in which we live within a scientific framework. At the same time, the center seeks to reveal the interactions among different cultures within our society and to contribute to universal peace through such studies. This work represents the first published example of the talk-based events organized by the center. Similar studies will continue through workshops and other events. If, perhaps ten thousand years from now, people seek to learn about their ancestors, they may remember these times by reading these books.

UNDERSTANDING ATATÜRK
When we look back at the pages of history, it can be seen that nations that have existed throughout history have always had highly capable and multifaceted leaders behind them. In our own history, the extraordinary period that culminated in the era of the Republic was shaped by the genius and leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Among the leaders of his time, Atatürk is the only one who has transcended into the 21st century. While many other leaders were eventually rejected by their own peoples, he continues to live vividly in the hearts of the Turkish people and in the world as a respected and admired leader.

DEVELOPMENT DYNAMICS IN AFRICA AT THE CENTER OF GLOBAL COMPETITION
Africa is a continent where six of the world’s ten fastest-growing economies are located and the only region outside the Asia-Pacific where growth exceeding 5% is expected. With new discoveries of oil, natural gas, and minerals, along with agricultural production, investments exceeded 80 billion dollars in 2014. Expected to host 40% of the world’s population by the end of the 21st century, the continent is also an emerging region demographically. With a middle class currently estimated at 300 million and rapidly growing, Africa is gaining increasing importance not only as an investment destination but also as a consumer market.

PERCEPTION OF RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS AMONG YOUTH IN TURKEY – A RESEARCH STUDY
Among all these values, there is one upon which all societies of the world are in agreement: the concept of the “holiday.” In its absolute sense, a holiday refers to days when goodness, beauty, happiness, enthusiasm, emotional richness, joy, and celebration reach their peak. In general and in theory, this concept does not include negativity, sorrow, or ugliness. Regardless of language, religion, sect, ideology, or ethnicity, the shared perception of the concept of a holiday among people is centered on this understanding.

SYMPOSIUM ON AHMET MİTHAT EFENDİ ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH
Ahmet Mithat Efendi is perhaps the first name that comes to mind when considering the modernization and reform movements of the 19th century. He was not only a prolific reader and writer but also one of the most widely read figures of his time. How did he achieve this? This is an important point to consider. Undoubtedly, the fact that he came from the common people played a significant role. He never distanced himself from the public from which he originated; he spoke and wrote at their level. More importantly, he conveyed useful knowledge to them. In this respect, he made a major contribution to the enlightenment of the second half of the 19th century. In a sense, he was an encyclopedist; his works and writings encompass a wide range of subjects.

ENLIGHTENED APPROACHES TO MEHMET ÂKİF ERSOY
Anniversaries ending in five and ten years hold special importance in commemorations. When both coincide for the same commemoration, the significance increases even further. This was also the case for Mehmet Âkif Ersoy. The 75th anniversary of his death was declared the Year of Mehmet Âkif Ersoy. In addition to the 75th anniversary, the fact that 2011 was also the 90th anniversary of the adoption of the Turkish National Anthem played a significant role in this declaration.

POLITICAL SCIENCE ACADEMY 1
The need for governance arises from the human condition as a social being living in communities, and this need brings the concept of politics. The term "politics," which refers to "activities related to the state," is derived from the Greek word "polis." Unfortunately, the concept of politics in Turkey has been used pejoratively for a long time. However, politics inherently involves conflicting ideas and interests. In addition to governing the state, influencing or changing it also falls within the realm of politics. This, in turn, creates competition between individuals and groups for the acquisition, maintenance, and influence of power.

INSPIRING BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION STORIES
Architecture, evolving across time and space, reflects cultural and technological developments in the most concrete and exciting way. Today, architecture serves as a communication tool on both global and local scales, continuing to produce iconic buildings that challenge the limits of human imagination. This book examines twenty iconic buildings from the second half of the 19th century to the present in Europe. It discusses the new ideas, technologies, and materials brought by these buildings, which were constructed as a result of architectural competitions, and their contributions to the architectural and urban environment. The book provides an analysis of how these iconic buildings, with their unconventional forms, symbolic meanings, and innovative concepts, have inspired the design of future buildings by offering new solutions in terms of "form-function-context." This study is expected to serve as a useful resource for architecture students, architects, and a broader audience interested in architecture.

EXAMINATION OF K-MEANS CLUSTERING METHOD: ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT EXAMPLE SCENARIOS AND SECTOR-ORIENTED SCENARIO
This book aims to thoroughly examine the K-means clustering method and highlight two fundamental issues associated with the method using various example scenarios. One issue is determining the initial random centroids in the second step of the method, while the other issue concerns determining the "k" value in the first step. Although various methods exist for determining the "k" value, there is no universally accepted method for when and which method should be used for different datasets. In this work, two commonly preferred methods (Silhouette Index and Calinski-Harabasz Index) are examined in detail with applied examples. The findings from these methods are compared. The issue of selecting initial cluster centers demonstrates that different findings may be obtained. This study aims to determine the most valid cluster by calculating the frequency of different cluster groups, silhouette indices, and Calinski-Harabasz index values from all possible initial center data obtained from the dataset. Furthermore, based on the knowledge that initial cluster data could come from outside the dataset, a method previously developed by us is used to obtain new data that can be used as initial centers from outside the dataset. These analyses are then performed using initial centers from both within and outside the dataset. While many of the examples in the book are performed with artificial (synthetic) datasets, the challenges encountered in these scenarios can also arise when working with real datasets.

THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL STRUGGLE
The National Struggle, which we proudly commemorate on its 100th anniversary, emerged as the existential fight of the Turkish nation, which rejected subjugation and remained steadfast in its pursuit of freedom and independence. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, after the occupation of Istanbul at the end of World War I, set out with a firm belief that "they will leave as they came." With the idea of establishing a "new Turkish State based on national sovereignty, absolutely free and independent," he headed to Anatolia and, with the power and support he received from the people, set his plans into action. This struggle, carried out with immense belief, determination, and resolve, resulted in victory for the great Turkish nation despite all the impossibilities and was recorded in history as the "War of Independence." The proceedings book of the "100th Anniversary of the National Struggle Symposium" published by the Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Application and Research Center contains valuable academic studies that help us better understand and remember the efforts for independence and the challenges faced.
